The Honorable Charles B. Renfrew was appointed as a Judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in 1972 by President Nixon. Judge Renfrew served in this capacity until taking the post of Deputy Attorney General of the United States in 1980. Since leaving public service, he has served as general counsel of Chevron Corporation, and is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of CPR, The International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution. Judge Renfrew is frequently hired as an international arbitrator and as a special master in complex litigation.

The Segal Institute is counseled by a distinguished Advisory Board comprised of former judges, law school
professors, and experienced appellate practitioners, each of whom is schooled in the unique perspective of the appellate court and dedicated to the advancement of appellate advocacy. The Advisory Board offers strategic planning to the Segal Institute, as well as real-world appellate experience, moot court participation, and other appellate consulting services. The Board members draw from their vast skills, knowledge, and familiarity with appellate practice to guide the Segal Institute in furthering its goal of providing expert appellate consultation and raising the bar of appellate advocacy.
