Our Advisory Board
The Honorable Phyllis W. Beck started her career in private practice and joined Temple University School of Law as an associate professor in 1974. She became vice dean at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1976, and held that position until she was appointed in 1981 to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. The first woman to serve as judge on the Superior Court, Judge Beck became Senior Judge at the end of 1997, and stepped down from the bench in 2005. Judge Beck currently serves as Legal Counsel to the Barnes Foundation, as well as Chair of the Board of Directors and Chief Financial Officer of the Independence Foundation, a private, nonprofit philanthropic group that supports organizations that provide services to people who do not ordinarily have access to them.
